#18 Soccer Training Session

Today we are doing a 30 minute training session focusing on ball control and first touch.

Equipment Needed: 1 ball and some hard gym walls.

0-5 minutes:

Warm up, Jog and stretch doing all the normal exercises like high knees, side shuffle, etc.

5-10 minutes:

You need one ball and two gym walls. One in front of you and one to the side of you. You should be about 15 yards away from each. Pass the ball off one wall, check your shoulder, take a touch as it comes back to you and turn and pass the ball off the other wall. Then repeat going back and fourth between both walls. Do this for 2 minutes. Then rest for 30 seconds. Do 2 sets.

10-15 minutes:

Juggling with the inside of your foot off the wall with no bounces. Use your right and left foot to play a game of one touch juggling with the wall. See how many you can get in a row. Remember your ankle should be locked, toe up and your foot angled up a bit so the ball goes up to the wall, not straight at it.

15-20 minutes:

Juggling with the laces of your foot off the wall with no bounces. Use your right and left foot to play a game of one touch juggling with the wall. See how many you can get in a row. Remember your ankle should be locked, toe down and your foot angled up a bit so the ball goes up to the wall, not straight at it.

20-25 minutes:

Throw the ball off the backboard of the basketball hoop underhand so it flies upward with spin when it hits and comes back toward you. Then check your shoulders quickly, trap the ball with a good first touch, and then repeat for 5 minutes. Imagine you a controlling a goal kick out of the air. For tips on technique watch my Online Soccer Academy training video titled "How to Control the Soccer ball out of the Air".

25-30 minutes:

Juggling on the jog or walk! Juggle while walking around the court. See how far you go. As you feel more confident try juggling while jogging and see how far you go. Challenge your control!

If you want to extend the training session time then add on time to any section you want extra work on.

Make sure to finish with cool down and stretching. If you are up for it add on a few sit ups and push ups!
