How to Make a Forward Run Like Suarez

Luiz Suarez doesn’t always make the smartest choices,
but when it comes to forward runs he is a genius.

Key Points:

Key Point 1 – Move if you don’t get the ball.

Key Point 2 – Create space for your teammate.

Key Point 3 – Tell your teammate where to run.

Key Point 4 – Run into the space created.

Key Point 5 – Keep your body open to the play.

Key Point 6 – Get in front of your defender.

Exercise to Practice:

You will need three players, a few balls and three cones.

Check to the winger and after a second or two of not receiving a pass, spin out to the back post. Shout and point to your teammate to run into the space. Your winger should be dribbling the ball up the field. Then as you are crossing over with your teammate the winger should cross the ball to the far post. Finish it for hopefully a goal and then switch with the other forward. Do a few reps and then switch the players around so a new player is the winger.

What’s Wrong:

If the timing of the cross is off the winger is playing the ball too late.

Bonus Tip:

This won’t work every time so don’t get discouraged if you are making Suarez genius like runs and not getting the ball.
