How to Chest a Soccer Ball with Control

Chesting a ball with direction is an advanced technique. Learn it now!

Key Points:

Key Point 1 – Point your chest in the direction you want the ball to go.

Key Point 2 – Turn your Chest as the ball is about to hit you.

Key Point 3 – Slightly Lean Back or Forward.

Key Point 4 – Mentally tell the ball where to go.

Exercise to Practice:

First exercise. Have your partner toss you the ball, control it to your right side and out of the air volley it back with the inside of your foot. Then do your left. Repeat for one minute and switch. Go for two sets. For this exercise your touch should be directional to the side and slightly up.

Second exercise. Have your partner toss you the ball, control it to your right side and dribble the ball to the cone quickly. Then pass it back and jog back to your start cone. Then do your left. Repeat for one minute and switch. Go for two sets. For this exercise your touch should be directional to the side and slightly down.

What’s Wrong:

If your touch isn’t going in the direction you want then you are probably turning your chest too late.

Bonus Tip:

Take your touch away from the defender!
