Steven Gerrard Makes a Mistake.
What Does He do Next?

How do You React After a Mistake? Steven Gerrard Shows the Proper Way to Handle a Mistake!

I'm a big fan of Steven Gerrard. He is a player I've wanted to emulate since I was a teenager. He tackles hard, creates going forward and leads by example everyday. Everyday, Everyday!

In April 2014 Gerrard had a slip up as a last defender. A Chelsea player stole the ball and dribbled to the goal and scored.

What happens is Gerrard slips near the halfway line, the ball gets stolen from him and a Chelsea forward dribbles half the field and scores.

Yes, it was a mistake by Gerrard. Yes, he slipped. But mistakes happen. I see so many young players putting their head down if they make a mistake. They make a noise like "uggg".

The reality is we all make mistakes. Even Steven Gerrard. The difference is what does Gerrard do after he makes a mistake? On this particular play he immediately gets up and sprints after the attacker. He didn't catch him but he was some close.

The Chelsea player scored but had he taken and extra touch Gerrard would have been there to make a play. He was there because he reacted positive and sprinted back right away.

He couldn't change the fact that he slipped. Anyone could have slipped. But not just anyone would get up and run back so fast. That is the mindset of a winner. If for a second Gerrard would have put his head down, made a noise, felt bad for himself for making a mistake he wouldn't have almost caught the attacker.

It didn't work out this time but most times it will if you react positive. Plus the great coaches will always notice this type of attitude.

Next time you make a mistake act like Gerrard and react positive. Don't be so hard on yourself! You are not perfect, no one is. We all make mistakes. Even Steven Gerrard.

Watch these two OSA videos for extra help. They will make you mentally stronger.
